page: 15 of 22
A surge protector is a buffering device that protects electronic equipment against excessive voltage spikes and surges in a power line. Surge protectors contain metal oxide varistors (MOVs), which act as buffers between a computer and a power line. When in use, a surge protector is plugged into any ordinary power outlet and provides several protected sockets in which to plug a computer system's power cords.
