Although it’s important to protect your computer from electrical mishaps, it’s even more important to protect yourself. Among measures to ensure your personal workspace is safe:

  • Sufficient workspace to accommodate the system unit and provide enough air circulation for the electrical equipment
  • Uncarpeted workspace to avoid electrostatic discharge
  • Positioned to avoid accidents (like tripping over wires) and a safe distance from heavy electrical equipment
  • Free of dust; a filtered air system can reduce dust and other contaminants
  • Proper grounding of AC electrical current
  • Cool stable temperatures and a humidity level of around 50% to reduce the likelihood of electrostatic discharge (ESD)
