Specifications of a Power Supply
Generally, the average user won't come in direct contact with a computer's power supply. However, if the user were to service a computer's internal components or actually change the power supply, it is very important to follow the power supply specifications. These specifications include a power supply's operating range, frequency, current, efficiency and EMI, or Electromagnetic Interface. These specifications are guides that tell what kind of electricity is acceptable for use with the computer and its components.
It is commonly known that lightning can damage a computer. However, there are also many other electrical hazards to be aware of. While electricity is an essential ingredient in the computing process, it can also damage and--in extreme cases--destroy a computer. It is important to know how electricity can negatively affect a computer and how to take proper precautions to protect a computer.
